We will be voting for the 2017 2nd Vice President at the Coaches Clinic on December 2nd and 3rd. We have some fantastic, well qualified individuals running. Here is information about the candidates who are running.

Greg Williams

gwilliamsGreg has been coaching in one form or another for over 27 years; football assistant J.V. – 27 years, track and field assistant – 4 years, track and field head coach – 23 years. Greg is a graduate of Coe College where he received his B.A. in education. Greg graduated from Monticello High School in 1982. Greg has been voted state track coach of the year 5 times, regional coach of the year 5 times, and has received coach’s achievement award 4 times. Greg has coached multiple state champions and elite all-state champions.

Al Pierce

pierceAl Pierce has been coaching track in Iowa since 1975. Al was a head football coach for most of my career and then went into college football coaching for the past 12 years.  Al has since retired this position the past season from football. Al has also for the last 22 years served as a race director  for the Marathon to Marathon race.

Tom Mittman

Tom Mittman has been running since 1970 and coaching since 1997. He graduated from South Eugene High School in 1971, Luther College in 1975(B.A.). While a med student at University of Oregon Health Sciences Center, he married Laura Stunz and they have raised 3 sons, Eric, Michael and Scott. Tom completed his medical degree in 1980, Family Practice Residency from the University of Iowa (1983) and has been Board Certified in Emergency Medicine since 1991. He has always maintained an interest in coaching and education and returned to the University of Iowa in 1989 where he completed course work necessary to become certified as a 7-12 grade science teacher and coach. Tom retired from his Emergency Medicine practice in December of 2014.

Since 1997 Tom has been coaching cross country and track at City High School. He was a volunteer assistant in Cross Country until he assumed the head coach position in 1999. In the years he has been involved in the program the number of athletes has increased from 34 to as many as 83. The varsity squads won the state championship in 1999, 2002, 2003, 2005 and 2006. They have brought home the Runners Up trophy seven times, and 3rd twice including this past season.

Tom also considers himself extraordinarily fortunate to be part of the track and field program at City High School where he served as a volunteer assistant for two years prior to assuming the position of assistant in 2000. He coached distance girls on the Championship teams of 1998,1999, 2002, 2003 and 2004 teams. Tom served as Head Coach from 2008-10 and has been serving as Co-Head Coach 2011-present. The 2009 team finished 2nd in State and 2011 team earned Championship honors.

Jared Fletcher

fletcher-bioJared is the current Varsity Head Coach at Carlisle High School. Jared has been teaching in the Carlisle school district for 13 years at, both, the middle school and elementary school. Jaren has been coaching Track and Field at Carlisle for 5 years. Since taking over the program as head coach Carlisle has had 1 state champion relay team, Carlisle has consistently placed well at the State meet in the last three years (22nd, 8th, 12th). Jared has coached 4 school record holders, 27 state meet qualifiers including 12 that placed in the top 8, 10 Drake Relay qualifiers, 13 Raccoon River Conference Champions, 10 meet wins. Jared has been selected Raccoon River Conference Boys Track and Field Coach of the Year in both 2015 and 2016. Jared was selected Iowa Association Coach of the Year class 3A At-Large in 2015.

Jared has been coaching football in the Carlisle School district for 13 years and currently serves as the Defensive Coordinator.
