Happy New Year!  Change is upon all of us and the chatter amongst coaches has been intriguing.  For those of us who coach the girls, some slight changes in event combinations, for those of us that coach the boys, a lot of change and probably a different outlook to event combinations for our athletes.  Finally, for those of us who host several meets, there will be modifications to meet management and workers.  I encourage all of you to share any ideas with management issues of invitational meets as we work through the new order of events.

I set out on a mission to improve communication from the coaches association to the advisory committee and even the IGHSAU and IAHSAA.  I feel we have improved communication lines significantly over the last several months.  John Overton and Jared Chizek have been great to work with and I know we are headed in the right direction.  Thank you for all of the phone calls and e-mails.  I appreciate the feedback and concerns.  I will continue to work diligently to find you answers to your questions and bring any and all concerns to the coach’s association executive members.

A couple of items that we have been working on is creating more value for your IATC membership.  I have been meeting with different organizations and working on creating unique partnerships in which our Iowa high school and middle school coaches can gain access to video vaults, clinics and other memberships with different track & field organizations at huge discounts to all of us.  I hope to have these in place by our June meeting this year.  This is something that will come at a cost.  This cost will be shared by membership dues and also by funds that the association is able to raise by our sponsored events.  One event in particular is an Indoor Midwest Championship style meet in 2018. We are working on solidifying those details and will share them as they become available.

I am looking forward to seeing you all compete this year!

Best of Luck and Health to all of you and you team this season,

Tim O’Neill
1st Vice President
