Hello fellow coaches! I hope this fall is off to a great start for everyone. Fall sports are underway and I wish everyone the best of luck this 2023-24 season.

I have something new and exciting to share with you: Cross Country Short Takes by our own Peggy McGuire! Peggy will be going to various cross country meets interviewing athletes to get their reaction to their performance, their competition as well as team performances.  Peggy will be posting their comments on social media. We are looking for other volunteers to do this at other meets around the state. If you or someone you know has interest, please contact Peggy or myself. There is a link on our website to view these short takes.

The association is working on a new and exciting coaching opportunity which will enable coaches to further their coaching knowledge. Look to our website and social media for further updates!

Last year, we had great membership participation and our goal is to increase membership for the 2023-2024 season.  All high school AD’s in Iowa should have received a membership invoice back in August. We have two ways in which we accept membership. You can pay via the website or send a check. If paying by check, please send it to Peggy McGuire (IATC Secretary/Treasurer) at the address listed on the form. If you are unsure if you have paid, we have an updated list on our website or contact Peggy McGuire (peggy.mcguire@msn.com) or Rob Hammann (runrobrun@gmail.com). We appreciate your membership!

The IATC Exchange Zone podcast is up and running with podcasts already produced for the cross country season. Coordinator Ben Duea and assistant coordinator Kyle Wagner have done a tremendous job in producing these weekly podcasts. Since the Exchange Zone started almost four years ago, there have been over 37,000 downloads. Please help spread the word about these podcasts to our fans, new families, freshmen, new athletes and your teams! All IATC Exchange Zone podcasts can be streamed on your favorite apps.

We would like to remind coaches/AD’s to enter their home meets into Varsity Bound including all teams that are attending. To help our rankings committees, please have results entered after the completion of the meet.

It is the goal of the IATC Board of Directors to continue to provide our student-athletes with supplemental competitions. The IATC is partnering with Ankeny Centennial to host the Dick Washburn Middle School State Cross Country Meet on Saturday, October 14th. You can find more information about this meet on our website. The Senior All-Star Cross Country Meet will be held in Pella on Saturday November 4th. We will release more information about this event as the details get finalized.

The IATC Board of Directors is pleased to announce that we will again be hosting the 2024 IATC Indoor Championships at the Lied Recreation Center at Iowa State University on Thursday, March 7th(girls) and Friday, March 8th (boys).  We had over 200 teams compete last year.

Good luck on a great season,

Greg Williams, Monticello High School
